Review: Round of 16: Uruguay v South Korea, USA v Ghana

Uruguay v South Korea, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth
Uruguay started much stronger than South Korea, it was very obvious. And it didn't take Uruguay long to be dangerous, and Suarez found the breakthrough 8 minutes in. South Korea weren't really getting control of the ball. Uruguay were not taking advantage though, and couldn't finish. That has a problem later on, when Lee leveled for South Korea. It looked like we were going to penalties, but with 10 minutes remaining, Suarez netted his second with some help from the post. South Korea never bounced back from that one. Final score: Uruguay 2.1 South Korea

USA v Ghana, Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg
The US have struggled early on, allowing early goals in every game so far, besides Algeria, though they did hit the bar in the 6th. This problem wasn't solved, and in the 5th minute, Ghana's Kevin-Prince Boateng, caught Howard out of position, and beat him near post, and the Ghanains led USA early. The half was very entertaining, with both sides creating chances. Halftime: USA 0.1 Ghana. The US started stronger the 2nd half, and in the 62nd, a penalty was awarded to the Americans. Landon Donovan stepped up, and beat Kingson from 12 yards. Both sides continued to create chances, but never finished. End of regulation: USA 1.1 Ghana. No golden goal. 15 minutes going each way, with a chance of penalties. 93rd minute, a long ball played over the top of the US back line, had Gyan nearly in behind. Bocanegra shoved Gyan but he stayed on his feet, before blasting the ball over the helpless Tim Howard. USA were very close to equalizing again, but it was too late. Final score after extra time: USA 1.2 Ghana.

With Uruguay and Ghana both winning 2.1, they will face each other in the quarter finals on July 2nd in Soccer City in Johannesburg.
