Review: Greece v South Korea, Argentina v Nigeria

Greece v South Korea, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth
Greece was careless in the opening minutes, giving away a freekick to the Koreans near the corner flag. Poor marking at the back post saw Korea open the scoring just 6 minutes into their World Cup campaign. Greece was being outworked and couldn't do much to threaten South Korea. Halftime: Greece 0.1 South Korea. The second half's opening 10 minutes was much like the first, and a giveaway had Manchester United's Park Ji-Sung in behind, before putting a superb finish past Greece's keeper. Greece still couldn't respond, and South Korea held on; final score: Greece 0.2 South Korea

Argentina v Nigeria, Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg
Argentina dominated early before earning a corner in the 7th minute. Great service and poor marking gave Gabriel Heinze a free diving header on the penalty spot which was roofed into the top corner, putting Argentina ahead. The half was all Argentina, and Lionel Messi was unfortunate on multiple occasions not the double the lead before half. In the second half, Messi, Tevez, and Higuain continued to tear apart the Nigerian defense, but couldn't find that second goal. Late in the match, Nigeria were beginning to apply serious pressure, but never found the back of the net. Very good showing from Argentina, but it should have been more comfortable. Argentina 1.0 Nigeria

Group B: As it stands, South Korea is top of Group B with a win and +2 goal difference, with Argentina in second with +1. Nigeria sit 3rd with -1 and 0 pts, and Greece rock bottom with 0 pts and -2 goal difference.
